Meet the designer

Hi, I'm Matthew.

I grew up around plants and building, and that early hands on time in the dirt and around construction is really where this all started for me. I went on to earn a formal degree in interior design, and I've spent the last several years building a practice here on the Gulf Coast, working out of Mobile, AL and serving clients across Baldwin County and the surrounding area. I've worked on everything from backyard landscapes to community non-profit projects to full construction document sets for accessory structures. What hasn't changed since those early days in the garden is the love of watching a space come together, from the first sketch to something a family or a community actually gets to live in.

Design philosophy

Sustainable design is the starting point for everything I do, whether it's a landscape, a structure, or the space in between. I lean on LEED principles and thoughtful material and plant choices suited to our zone 8b/9a climate, so the work I design actually fits the environment instead of fighting it. That means less waste, less maintenance, and buildings and outdoor spaces that hold up to Gulf Coast heat, storms, and humidity over the long run. I also believe design doesn't stop at any one discipline. Site planning, structural decisions, and interior atmosphere all work together, so every project feels like one connected idea instead of a handful of separate choices bolted together.

Vision

Design should be fun. It should feel like an exciting part of building something you love, not a chore you have to get through. My goal is to make thoughtful, well built design accessible to everyone, not just high end clients. I want working with me to feel friendly and easy, whether you're a homeowner planning your first project or a community group trying to bring something good to a neighborhood that needs it.

Matthew was absolutely amazing to work with! As someone who did not have a complete vision for the project and knows more of what I don’t like than what I like, Matthew was able to fill the gaps and turn nothing into something. He was patient, timely and very helpful throughout the process. Also, his plant suggestions were better than most. I’ve had others suggest plants and after researching, concerned how well that plant would do in that spot due to sun/shade—not his. They were all what I was needing/hoping for. Highly recommend working with Matthew.

Working with Matthew has been a wonderful and fun experience. He has truly created a vision for my home that I could not see myself. He listened to my basic needs, transformed them into a beautiful, cohesive concept, and gave me several options to choose from. It's clear he is passionate about what he does, and I'm already looking forward to working with him on other projects in the future!

Frequently asked questions

Still wondering about something? The easiest way to find out is a quick consultation.

Book a Consultation
What's the difference between a design consultation and a full design package?

A consultation is a one time meeting focused on ideas, direction, and general guidance for your space. A full design package includes detailed drawings, plant selections, and documents ready for permitting or installation.

How involved will I need to be during the design process?

You will be involved at key milestones, like reviewing concepts and approving final plans, but the day to day design work is handled by me. Most clients spend just a few hours total across the whole project.

Do you work on projects outside the Mobile and Baldwin County area?

Most projects are based on the Gulf Coast, but I do take on select projects further out depending on scope and timeline. Reach out with your location and I will let you know if it's a good fit.

Can you recommend or coordinate with contractors for installation?

I don't install the work myself, but I maintain a list of trusted local contractors I'm happy to share. I'm also available during installation to answer questions and make sure the plan is followed correctly on site.

What if a project needs to pause and restart later, does anything change?

Life happens, and projects can pause anytime without losing your place or your existing design work. If plant availability or codes have changed by the time you're ready to restart, I'll review and update the plan before moving forward.
